On 22 October, the Imperial War Museum (IWM) launched War Story, a Boeing-supported project that will provide military men and women and their families the opportunity to record their personal stories and have them permanently catalogued in the museum’s collections.
The War Story project will be shared with the UK public and the world through digital media and the internet. Conducted in several phases over a three-year period, phase one is the launch of a dedicated website which will act both as a repository for digital material and as a forum for discussion and sharing of experiences between participants.
"The War Story initiative will provide a unique opportunity for UK active service personnel and their families to have their personal stories permanently recorded for current and future generations," said Mike Kurth, Managing Director of Boeing Defence UK. "The Boeing Company is proud to support this lasting legacy and work with such a respected institution as the Imperial War Museum."
The War Story project is based closely on the US Operation Homecoming initiative, a partnership between The Boeing Company and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), which began in 2004 and led to a book anthology and an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning documentary.
